Pupil Parliament

What is a Pupil Parliament?

A Pupil Parliament is a group of pupil leaders within our primary school, who take on the responsibility of representing their peers and helping to improve the school community. It provides a platform where pupils can share their ideas, voice their opinions, and take an active role in decision-making processes. The goal of the Pupil Parliament is to develop leadership skills, promote responsibility, and ensure that our children are actively involved in making their school a better place for everyone.

The Purpose of Pupil Parliament

The primary purpose of the Pupil Parliament is to empower students by giving them a voice in the way their school is run. Members of the Pupil Parliament work together to discuss issues, suggest improvements, and plan events that benefit the whole school. Through this process, they learn valuable skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and communication. By taking an active role in their school community, pupils also learn about democracy and gain a sense of responsibility and pride in making a difference.

Integral Roles in the Pupil Parliament

The success of the Pupil Parliament relies on several key roles, each of which plays an important part in contributing to the smooth running of the school and the well-being of the school community:

  • Head Students lead the Pupil Parliament, acting as the main link between their peers and the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher. Their leadership is crucial in guiding the direction of the school and ensuring that student voices are heard. They are responsible for organising meetings, gathering feedback from their peers, and leading initiatives such as online safety. Their role in guiding peers will be seen in the delivery of their collective worships.

  • Mini Vinnies focus on charitable work within the school community. They work with the local St Vincent de Paul Charity and the church’s Friendship Group to raise awareness and funds for people in need. Their commitment to service and charity embodies the school's virtues.

  • House Captains are responsible for fostering house spirit, organising competitions, and leading collective worships. By promoting teamwork and a sense of belonging, they encourage fairness and healthy competition among pupils, making sure everyone has the opportunity to contribute to their house’s success.

  • Well-being Ambassadors focus on the mental and physical well-being of pupils by organising and leading various playtime clubs that promote joy and inclusivity. From reading and mindful colouring to gardening and dance, they ensure that pupils have a safe and supportive environment where they can thrive both emotionally and physically.

Why These Roles Matter

Each role within the Pupil Parliament plays an integral part in creating a positive, inclusive, and dynamic school environment. Whether through leadership, charity, house spirit, or well-being initiatives, these roles ensure that the voices of all pupils are heard, and that every child has the opportunity to grow, lead, and contribute to the school community.

The Pupil Parliament fosters a culture of responsibility, respect, and service, helping to shape young leaders who are ready to make a difference in their community both in and beyond their school.
