KS2 learn to Be Internet Secure! 🔒

Protecting our information, building good habits! KS2 explored practical ways to keep accounts and devices secure—and how to get help when something goes wrong. 🔒💜💛

KS2 learn to Be Internet Secure! 🔒

KS2 took part in a Be Internet Legends Secure assembly, exploring what personal data is, why it matters and the risks of sharing it.

We discovered how predictable habits—such as choosing a birthday as a PIN—can make information easier to guess. Staying secure means making thoughtful choices and regularly checking our settings, including after updates.

Practical tips to explore with a parent or carer included:

  • 🔑 Protect accounts: choose strong, different passwords and turn on two-step verification where available.

  • 📱 Lock devices: use a secure PIN, fingerprint or facial recognition where supported.

  • 🎤 Check permissions: only allow camera and microphone access when an app needs them.

  • 📍 Review location sharing: switch it off for apps that do not need it; choose limited access where appropriate, such as “while using” a maps app.

  • 🛡️ Keep protection working: install updates promptly, keep built-in security tools and firewalls enabled, and review parental controls together.

We also learned what to do if someone gains access to an account: tell a trusted adult straight away. With their help, use the app or game’s official recovery process, change compromised passwords and sign out other devices and sessions. If payment details or money are affected, an adult should contact the bank promptly.

Our key message: stay curious, check carefully and ask for help. Being secure is a habit we keep practising!
